I just celebrated my first anniversary with IDEXX this July as the Manager for the Memphis Distribution Center facility in Tennessee. Prior to IDEXX, and before taking a civilian position back in 2007, I was a Captain in the United States Air Force. Once my tour of duty completed, I decided to create my own path and build a professional resume that includes more than 15 years of supply chain and logistics from military, wholesale, and retail distribution.
What brought me to IDEXX was that I was looking for a company that was doing something meaningful, that had a real interest in community works, a place where I could continue to grow professionally, and a company that ultimately takes good care of its people. In thinking back to my first impressions of IDEXX, I thought, “Wow, this company truly values its people.”
So what is it like to work in a major distribution hub for IDEXX? Working in the Distribution Center there is never a dull moment. There’s always a new opportunity—and it’s extremely fulfilling knowing you have done your best each day in order to help the customer have the best experience possible.
I’ve had the privilege of working at IDEXX for two years managing Operations Analytics in the FIVEX group. We have the responsibility of supporting all aspects of operations for the company. Our team has to be versatile and agile, and we also have to be well versed in multiple technologies and data sources. It never gets boring around here!
When challenges arise the first question that’s asked is, “How will this affect the customer?” At IDEXX, this is our primary responsibility, not just an ideal. I’ve been able to take Six Sigma training to support problem solving across teams, building on each person’s knowledge and skills to reach the best solution. I’m fascinated by the company culture of “getting it done.” It doesn’t matter if we’ve never done it before; if someone has an idea that brings value to our customer, our industry or our business, then IDEXX finds a way to accomplish it.
IDEXX’s involvement in the community is something that I’m particularly proud of. As part of our community GIVE program, I’ve had the chance to teach STEM and robotics classes through 4H.
Exceeding customer expectations is one of our guiding principles at IDEXX. Our credibility as a company relies on our ability to deliver quality products to our customers on time and with no disruption to their business. IDEXX’s Worldwide Operations Team works to meet this challenge each day with a global network of distribution hubs and a focus on efficiency, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
