I joined IDEXX as an intern while I was pursuing my Master’s in Electrical Engineering at the University of Maine. I really liked the people and the company’s culture, so I decided to come back to work at IDEXX full time. I started as an application developer but quickly moved on to become an instrument product support engineer. I have evolved from being a hands-on systems engineer to a project lead in new product development - managing a cross functional team of engineers and scientists. I love what I do and I really enjoy working with people on my team.
Reflecting upon my career at IDEXX, I have had some great managers and mentors who have helped and guided me in this journey. I could stretch myself and explore new domains, and I have had support from my managers in this process. I would describe myself as someone who loves to learn new things, and IDEXX has provided me with numerous opportunities to develop myself and enhance my skills.
While I was at school, I was one of the very few women engineers in my class. I always wondered about the difference in the ratio and constantly look for ways to contribute in this arena. At work, I was encouraged to attend the Women in STEM summit in Boston last year and the Women in Leadership symposium this year in Portland. I was, in fact, excited that IDEXX was one of the sponsors for this years’ symposium. I have been at IDEXX for almost ten years now and I feel like I have been growing with the company. I love the work life balance that IDEXX provides and it is great that the company cares about its employees.
Here at IDEXX, Information Technology is much more than printer problems. I work as an Application Developer building out the LYNXX application, which supports diagnostic reporting in our global reference laboratories. It’s an extremely rewarding and fascinating job. Our work has an indirect impact on animals’ health and wellness…which is pretty awesome!
Being an Application Developer (aka Programmer), is right up my alley. I love solving complex problems. Outside of work is no different for me, as I like to compete in ultra-marathons and continually challenge myself. I’m a Rochester, New York, native, but I love the Maine and New England area for the mountains and potential for outdoor activities, so I jumped at the opportunity to come work for such a great company.
The first thing that shocked me about IDEXX was the culture. During my first week here, it was amazing to see so many people so passionate about what they work on. This type of culture is one that cultivates success, and it was apparent after a few days of working here. After a month or so, I realized that IDEXX is not just an incredible place to get a cup of coffee, workout, or a great environment, but it is also place that promotes personal growth, and I love growing here.
The technology landscape is in continual evolution, and IDEXX is leading the way with agile responses to practice needs and a holistic approach to systems integration. We develop customer-centric solutions that deliver value for practices, pets and their families, working across the company to leverage the best minds possible for technical innovation.
