Go "behind the scenes" of IDEXX Histology

"I enjoy my job at the laboratory, every day is never the same. We receive different samples from several different animals and you don't know what you're going to get until you pick up each batch of work. We can interact with pathologists to have queries about certain cases and we also pass on information from more senior staff to more junior members of the staff on a daily basis."

What our employees are saying

"I started in Histology as a trainee. I joined Histology as a Lab Assistant, coming from the Lab Assistant role in PSM. I got to understand Histology workflows and quickly became a trainee. After learning all the benches in Histology, I was promoted to Lead Technician and then eventually promoted to my current role of Histology Supervisor.

I love that each day and sample is different! I am constantly learning new things about Histology, samples and the veterinary industry. I have veteran staff on my team and they are still learning new things 15+ years later and we love sharing what we learn with each other."

"Previous to working at IDEXX I worked as a veterinary technician, assisting in surgeries to remove growths, tumors, and organs - but I never knew what happened after they left the animal hospital. In IDEXX Histology, it's fascinating to learn about how disease processes worked and it was amazing to learn how the body responds to pathology. But most importantly, being a part of the diagnosis for the patient and feeling like an integral piece of the puzzle for the cases that we receive is the most impactful experience of it all.

Working in histology is the best of both worlds - gaining technical knowledge while also helping animals, without the trauma of seeing animals in pain."

"I was recruited to IDEXX in 2017 after finishing my final semester for my bachelor’s degree for the lab assistant position. While I had some human histology experience, I had never really thought about any animal pathology until then. Helping animals while doing the benchwork that I love seemed like a perfect match, and it was! And I’ve only continued to learn and grow from there, first moving onto becoming a tech and now as a Tech Lead which is something I never thought I’d be able to do! I’ve come a long way in the past 7 years and while I am not done learning, I have to thank my amazing team for helping me be the tech I am today."
